Week 1 and 2 in California

My first few days in the mission field. So the first day was fun we woke up at around like 930 am. So we got to sleep in essentially because when we were got to the mission home we it was like 12 am in the morning. But yeah once we woke up we just got ready and kinda went to the church so we could get a run down of everything and also get are trainers. And I got 2 of them so I guess this is the Savior saying I'm soo stubborn and hard headed that I need 2 trainers to learn something  . Jk Jk. But no honestly it's cool being in a trio for my first place. Oh by the way I am in a Fijian ward. So we teach Figians. And they have actually been teaching me a little bit of Fijian. It's really cool. And then the next few days we just started teaching these two people. And it was cool cuz they had a lot of questions and well I haven't talked much just cuz I am trying to get an understanding of the dynamics of things. But when I did speak I felt as though that the people got a bet...

November 29, 2022: Leaving for the Mission Training Center

A Mother's Thoughts:   Well, it's been a few days and I still haven't written about they day they left. This day was extremely emotional one for me. I love my babies and am so extremely happy with their choice to go and serve the Lord. However, I had to say goodbye to the youngest.  I went to work (wish I had stayed home with them) then left early to help them get to the airport. We took them to Wendy's to make sure they ate which turned out to be a good thing because they didn't have time in Dallas to do anything but get to their plane.  We got them to the airport and family and friends came to see them off. My momma came but she was unable to stay and I forgot to take a picture.  Most of their siblings made it as well as their niece and nephew. Their Aunt Lauren (whom they don't call Aunt but hey I get to because I am the one typing this up) was their with Rayden, Rowen, and Ivy. It will be a long 18 months - 2 years for these littles waiting for their cousins...

Elder Alford's First few days at the Mission Training Center

So this crazy son of mine, waited until late on preparation day to call and did not send an email, because he called. So I am going to have to try to think of some of what he told me.  First, he is loving his time at the MTC! He loves his district and is excited for the work. Oh, he told a story that he had heard in one of his classes.  I'm not sure all the details but the gist is that someone was stabbed. The person who was stabbed was not the intended target. Apparently, after he was stabbed he proceeded to explain the gospel of forgiveness to the person who stabbed him. The man got away, but because of the conversation he turned himself in, went to jail and asked the missionaries to come visit him.  He is bringing his big can of Tony's to meals with him. He is not impressed with the food. Some people are recognizing the Tony's and coming up to him.  If he sees snow, this southern born gentleman will make a snowman. LOL Acting silly! A picture he sent. I think it i...

T'was the night before

Yesterday, was my birthday. We celebrated it in true Alford style. Meaning we had a great dinner, great dessert, very loud and obnoxious singing and wonderful presents. I kept my mind off of the fact that Jared and Jessica would be leaving today. Then, because it was late and I had gone back to work and was extremely tired I went to bed around 9:00. Only to wake up with lots of tender feelings at 2: 00 am. My mind is turned to my sweet children. I love them so very much. I can't believe that they will be flying away in a few short hours. Life as we know it will never be the same. All of my babies have grown and are now soaring high! It is the moment in their lives that is much anticipated but also as it gets closer much dreaded. The moment when they leave. I am so blessed to have such amazing children.      Jared has been a delight. I have loved watching him grow. So bare with me as I reminisce for a few moments.  Jared is the second son, but he is the 6th chil...
